Thunder season ends in Port Coquitlam

The Langley Tier 1 Thunder run to a championship has come to an end.

The Thunder lost 9-3 in Game 3 of the BC Junior Tier Lacrosse League best-of-five championship series on July 24 at the Port Coquitlam Community Centre. Port Coquitlam won the series 3-0.

Langley led 3-1 early in the second period of Game 3 but the Saints locked things down from there, outscoring the Thunder 8-0 over the final 32:55 to sweep the series. The Thunder also held a two-goal lead in the second period of Game 2 before the Saints reeled off nine of the final 10 goals in an 11-5 win.

Logan Claxton (1-1), Dylan Massa (1-1) and Owen Van Ryn provided the Thunder offence in the final game with Jensen McGregor stopping 55 shots as Langley was outshot 64-37.

After finishing fourth in the regular season (10-8, 20 points) Langley was 4-4 in the post-season, sweeping the Delta Islanders 2-0 in the opening round and then upsetting the top-seed Victoria Shamrocks 2-1 in the semi-final round. 

McGregor played all eight games in goal for Langley and had a .823 save percentage to go along with a 9.89 goals against. Offensively, Claxton led the team in assists (20) and points (28) while both Jacob Glass and Cam Smith reached double digits in goals with 17 and 12, respectively.
