Struss scores four as Thunder top Lakers

The trio of Braiden Struss, Bailey Vanichuk and Kanen Hunter were unstoppable Friday night in Burnaby.

The three combined for six goals and 17 points to lead the Langley Thunder to a 10-7 win over the Burnaby Lakers in BC Junior Tier 1 Lacrosse League action at Bill Copeland Arena. The victory was the second in the past three games for Langley as the Thunder now sit at 2-3 on the season. The Lakers saw their record fall to 2-2.

Langley had a slim 3-2 lead after one period with Vanichuk, Andrew Joseph and Tristan Kirkham tallying for the visitors. Both offences would explode in the second period for a combined 11 goals with Langley scoring six for the 9-7 lead with a period to play. Four of the six came off the stick of Struss while Hunter and Liam Taillefer added one each.

The goaltenders would shut the door in the third period with the only goal coming courtesy of Langley’s Curtis Goode for the 10-7 final score.

Struss added three assists to finish with seven points while Vanichuk added five assists for the six-point game and Hunter had three assists for a four-point night.

Final shots were 50-42 for Burnaby with Langley’s Noah Kozevnikov starting and playing the first period and majority of the second, allowing seven goals, before Dryden Recsky came in between the pipes and shut the door the rest of the way.

The Thunder are now back in action on Friday (July 23) when they visit the Delta Islanders.
