Shamrocks stifle Thunder
For the second straight game, the Langley Thunder struggled over the final 20 minutes, resulting in an 0-2 start to the season.
The Thunder were at The Q Centre in Victoria on Saturday afternoon to face the Shamrocks in BC Junior Tier 1 Lacrosse League action. Trailing 7-4 with a period to play, Langley was held scoreless -- and only managed five shots on goal -- over the final 20 minutes but Victoria scored six times for the 13-4 final score.
The loss dropped the Thunder to 0-2-0 on the season while it was the Shamrocks season opener.
Down 3-1 after a period, Langley cut the deficit to a single goal with a power-play marker before Victoria responded with a 4-0 run -- including three goals in less than a minute -- to effectively put the game out of reach.
The Shamrocks outshot Langley 49-28 with Marcus Khan making 36 saves. Dylan Massa led the offence with a pair of goals and an assist while Logan Claxton (1-2) also finished with three points. Cam Smith (1-1) had the other Thunder tally.
Anthony Chevalier and Jordan Alexander each had hat tricks and five point games to lead the Shamrocks attack while Matthew Denis made 24 saves in the Victoria net.
