Saints take Game 1

The Saints took a 1-0 lead in the best-of-five BC Junior Tier 1 Lacrosse League championship series, defeating the visiting Langley T1 Thunder 13-9.

The teams were playing Game 1 on Sunday night at the Port Coquitlam Community Centre.

Port Coquitlam scored more than half their goals in the opening 20 minutes and led 9-3 early in the middle frame before the Thunder clawed their back, cutting the deficit to a pair of goals with just over eight minutes remaining. The Saints would tally the final two goals of the game, however.

Jacob Glass led the Langley offence with four goals with Dylan Massa adding two goals and a pair of assists. Owen Van Ryn (1-1), Colten Lifton and Josiah Allen added a goal apiece.

Jensen McGregor stopped 47 shots as the Saints outshot the Thunder 60-48.

Ayden Chilman (4-2), Callum Turpin (2-2) were the top scorers for the Saints with Colby Hyland making 39 saves.

The series now shifts to Langley Events Centre for Game 2 on Thursday (July 23) before a return match in Port Coquitlam the following night (July 25).
