Khan, Thunder stump Shamrocks

A stellar performance from goaltender Caleb Khan led the Langley Thunder back into the win column on Sunday afternoon.

Hosting the second-place Victoria Shamrocks, the Thunder snapped a two-game losing streak with the 11-7 win at Langley Events Centre. Langley was coming off an 8-6 loss the day before in Nanaimo against the third-place Timbermen and the split leaves the Thunder with a 5-7 mark in the BC Junior Tier 1 Lacrosse League.

Khan finished with 58 saves – his third 50-plus save game of the season – as Langley was outshot 65-45 on the afternoon. For the season, Khan has an .841 save percentage, good for seventh in the league.

Langley led 5-3 after 20 minutes but put the game out of reach with a four-goal middle frame where they held the Shamrocks scoreless.

Mac Timms, Xavian Washington, and Brayden Longacre each had hat tricks and four-point games while Jake Newby potted a pair. Jameson Reed finished with five assists.

Dane Kinney and Hunter Clarke scored twice apiece for Victoria.

Facing the Timbermen the day before in Nanaimo, Langley jumped out to a 2-0 lead but were done in by a 5-1 second period in favour of the hosts, falling 8-6. Newby (2-1) led the offence with Connyr Welch (1-1), Logan Heales, Declan Fines and Washington scoring once apiece. Khan finished with 38 saves on 48 shots.

Kris Fournier’s hat trick and five points led the Timbermen attack with Jake Colley stopping 35 of 41 shots.
