Islanders stymie Thunder offence

A five-goal hole proved too much to overcome.
Playing their first road campaign of the season, the Tier 1 Langley Thunder fell 10-4 to the Delta Islanders on May 3 at the Ladner Leisure Centre. It leaves Langley with a 1-1 mark to start the BC Junior Tier 1 Lacrosse League season. Delta sports a 3-1 record.
The first period saw both goaltenders shine, making a combined 34 saves with the Islanders taking a 1-0 lead into intermission, and that score stood until nearly the midway point of the game when Delta broke the game wide open with four goals in less than four minutes for what became an insurmountable 5-0 lead.
Jackson Hastings was between the pipes for the Thunder, making 49 saves –including 19 on 20 first-period shots – and finishing with an .831 save percentage.
Offensively, Brayden Longacre (2-1) and Mac Timms (1-2) led Langley with three-point games and Connyr Welch had one goal and one helper.
Brady MacKay led Delta with a five-point game, scoring once and setting up four others while Ryan Roberts and Michael Burt each scored twice as part of their respective three-point games.
Jett Burns made 38 saves on 42 shots.
Each team scored once on the power play with Langley finishing 1-for-6 while the Islanders went 1-for-4.
The Thunder are back in action on May 14 as they host the Burnaby Lakers at Langley Events Centre. Game time is 7:30pm.
